The Thing is a supergroup featuring three of the most active Scandinavian musicians in free jazz. Mats Gustafsson has made a name for himself as a one-of-a-kind ferocious saxophonist with various groups, and through his collaborations with artists such as Sonic Youth, Peter Brötzmann, The Ex, Barry Guy and Evan Parker, to name a few. His companions, Ingelbrigt Håker Flaten and Paul Nilssen-Love have officiated as a rhythm section for some of the finest and adventurous jazz ensembles in recent memory. For this very special concert, the trio will be joined in the second set by the legendary American guitarist James Blood Ulmer, an exceptional musician renowned in the jazz world as a collaborator of Ornette Coleman, also gaining notoriety as an adventurous blues artist. The head-on collision will be nothing short of spectacular, a meeting of minds between inspired artists.
