CARMINO in concert Friday, November 13, 2015 – 8pm

The renaissance of the grand Portuguese Fado music tradition in recent years has seen the emergence of whole new generation of artists invested in the expression of the culture of the country- virtually its heart and soul. Carmo Rebelo de Andrade, better known as Carminho not only reflects this resurgence of fado in our era, but also has emerged to become the rising star recognized as one of the most outstanding and heartfelt voices of the genre that made Amália, Mariza and Cristina Branco into world-renowned artists.

From her birth in 1984, Carminho had been immersed in Fado for her mother, Teresa Sigueira, was herself a renowned fadista. The emergence of her career begins in her adolescence where she is accompanied by her four brothers and sisters in the Lisbon fado establishment run by her parents. Soon recognized, she earns the Premio Amália Revelação award (2005) and later prominently featured in the Carlos Saura film Fados (2007).

Her first album, appropriately named Fado, without doubt consecrates her as an international ambassador of Portuguese culture. From it’s release in 2009, the album is honoured by the public, propulsing sales to become certified platinum in her home country while garnering accolades in the rest of the world: the UK based Songlines magazine named “Fado” its best album of 2011. The release of her second album Alma- “Soul” (2012), is a title that reflects just how much Carminho pours herself into her singing. Reaching gold status in her home country, it confirmed her growing importance on the world stage where she is regularly invited in a flourishing career to perform in major venues and events throughout Europe.

Canto, released in late 2014, presents us Carminho in the company of renowned artists, including famed Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso who contributes the original « O Sol, Eu ET Tu ». Canto includes a duo with Marisa Monte and the exceptional participation of such artists as António Serrano, Carlinhos Brown, Dadi Carvalho, Jaques Morelenbaum, Javier Limón, Jorge Hélder, João Frade, Lula Galvão and Naná Vasconcelos.

With this first time performance in Montreal, Carminho and her musicians offer us the occasion to discover and share an evening with what has been described as “the most important fado revelation of the last decade” to embody the future of this unique artistic expression. A memorable evening at the Theatre Outremont not to be missed!

Tickets are $70 and $51.75 (including the $5 Theatre Outremont service charge, plus GST & PST).

CARMINHO,

A nova estrela do Fado em Montréal,
Teatro Outrement,
