A rising international star from Spain, BUIKA conquers with her wondrous voice and her uncategorisable talent. She has been hailed as the new revelation of Flamenco influenced by jazz, soul, copla, blues and its African roots.

Designated as a sensual beauty, with a wide vocal range, husky and imperious voice, this singer works in creating musical magic and mesmerizing atmosphere transforming a litany of love’s agonies – loss, loneliness, hurt – into a triumphant expression of life. Daughter of a political refugee from the African nation of Equatorial Guinea, she was born and grew up in a gypsy neighborhood on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

”Magnificent…the rare fusion that honors all its sources” – The New York Times

A two-time Latin Grammy Awards winner for her albums Mi Niña Lola (going gold in Spain) and El Último Trago, (The Last Drink -2009), Concha Buika has produced 6 albums since 2001, including three collaborations signed by the renowned producer and musician Javier Limón. Her latest release, En mi piel (In My Skin – a 2 disc compilation) showcases her breathtaking diversity and range. She has collaborated with the Portugese Fado star Mariza, Greek singer Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar and Nelly Furtado among others. She honoured legendary Mexican singer Chavela Vargas in a collaboration with the reputed Cuban pianist Chucho Valdess with the CD El Último Trago. Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar, one of her biggest fans, invited her for a remarked appearance in the film while contributing two songs to the soundtrack of his latest movie, La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In).

A rendez-vous not to be missed with the Queen of Flamenco at Théâtre Maisonneuve – Place des Arts on Thursday, October 25th, 2012 at 8:30pm.
