Anthony Braxton is an American composer and multiinstrumentalist whose illustrious career spanning six decades has redefined the boundaries of contemporary jazz and experimental music. A highly talented improviser as well as a prolific composer, Braxton is an artist who has constantly shown a strong determination to pursue his own visionary path outside of established conventions. His groundbreaking solo playing, his numerous improvised collaborations, his quartet performances and his compositions for large ensembles have all shaped Braxton’s deeply inventive and varied oeuvre.
For his first Suoni Per Il Popolo visit, Anthony Braxton will be accompanied by Taylor Ho Bynum (brass), Dan Peck (tuba), Adam Matlock (accordion), Jacqueline Kerrod (harp) and Shelley Burgon (harp).
Fred Bazil is a Montreal saxophonist who has since 2007 organized the free monthly collective improvisation workshop at Sala Rossa. He has participated in L’Appel du Vide, NUDE, Matana Roberts’ Coin Coin, Regards sur le 7ème Feu and other projects. He will play a solo for tenor saxophone.
